ADDRESSING Skin Laxity of your eyelid
At Niche Plastic Surgery we provide professional and personalised care to our patients. Our team of ASPS Specialist Plastic Surgeons have a particular interest in facial plastic surgery, including eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
The eyelids undergo a variety of changes over time, including increasing skin laxity. If the excess skin at the upper lid is interfering with your line of sight, or is a cosmetic concern, our surgeons at Niche Plastic Surgery can help you alter the eyelid appearance and improve your field of vision.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery, also known as upper blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, muscle and sometimes small pockets of fat, from the top lid. The goal of this procedure is to open the eye and provide more space on the lid.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) encompasses a range of surgical procedures that can address skin laxity concerns of the lower eyelid and midface. The surgery will typically involve an incision inside the lower eyelid and also on the outside, just beneath the eyelash. Orbital fat can be removed and/or moved to change the contour of the lower eyelid to a more smooth appearance.

Recovery Basics
It is vital during the postoperative period that you allow sufficient time for your body to rest and recover. Your surgeon will advise you to refrain from heavy exercise, excessive work or sports involving physical contact. You should plan to spend a week to 10 days at home away from work and other activities to give your body ample recovery time. You may not be able to drive until you are fully recovered and off all pain medications.
You will be given instructions to help keep you comfortable during recovery. We will also provide you with prescription pain medication you can take during the first few days after surgery. You will also have the contact details of your surgeon and are encouraged to call after hours should you have any concerns about your post-operative care or the healing process. During the day, you will be able to get in touch with your surgeon and nurse at Niche Plastic Surgery consulting rooms.
What are the common risks associated with eyelid surgery?
All surgery will involve risk of complication and undesirable outcomes. Those specific to blepharoplasty procedures include but are not limited to; transient or permanent injury to facial nerve causing an asymmetry in forehead movement, post operative bleeding, changes in forehead skin sensation, poor wound healing including infection and wound breakdown, poor scarring. There are a small percentage of patients that will have an unsatisfactory outcome following surgery and require a revision procedure.
